5 Ways To Keep Cool This Summer

Summer is upon us, and that means fun in sun. It also means hot, hot, hot weather. So how do you keep your family cool when the mercury levels skyrocket? Here's 5 tips for staying cool this summer:

Ceiling Fan Switch-a-Roo: Did you know you should change the rotation of your ceiling fan seasonally?  Set it counter-clockwise in the summer at a higher speed, the fan’s airflow will create a wind-chill breeze effect that will make you “feel” cooler.
Keep it Cool in the Kitchen: Avoid turning on the oven during the summer as much as possible. We eat a lot of salads in the summer (this is one of our favorites, as well as this one, and this one). And the slow cooker is your friend anytime of year.

Snack Smart: When it's hot out, keeping hydrated is extremely important. But it can be hard to get kids to slow down enough to drink enough water. Try a slushy frozen in a Little Green Pouch. This recipe with coconut water in it is great for staying hydrated as well. The kids (and adults) will love them, they will stay hydrated, and you will avoid the dreaded melted popsicle mess.

Wear light, loose-fitting clothing: Linen, cotton, and silk are the fabrics of the summer. Light colored clothes and hats will reflect sunlight, rather than absorbing it like dark colors do.

Plan some indoor activities: While summer is all about being outside, on especially hot days, take advantage of free air conditioning. Go out to lunch, to the museum, library, or window shop at the mall.
